New security solution detects BIOS malware
With SafeBIOS Event and Attack Indicator (IoA) monitoring software, Dell Technologies has launched a monitoring tool that automatically detects malware in the Dell PC BIOS.
If the configuration change is identified as a threat, you can quickly locate the infected PC and isolate it. This is also possible during the ongoing attack. In addition to the antivirus program that is only active in the operating system, the SafeBIOS security solution is also used, so the system firmware cannot be accessed.
Since the firmware is not on the computer's hard disk, but in its own memory area, regular antivirus scanners cannot see its activity. The security software will not get stuck here anyway, because it has not been actively loaded when booting the system. If an attacker is now embedded in the firmware, it completely constitutes damage to the system. In general, malware that usually does not receive attention before the operating system is started can no longer be removed using standard methods. The attacker can then read the undetected data and penetrate deep into the corporate network.
